September 13, 2000 - New Stocking Distributor
Carver Pump is pleased to welcome Glauber Equipment Corporation as our new stocking distributor for the upstate New York territory. With offices in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany, Glauber is well-positioned to serve the growing Carver customer base in this region.
July 14, 2000 - Lean Manufacturing
Carver Pump announced to employees plans for a sweeping reorganization of its internal order handling, scheduling, procurement, and manufacturing processes. The core of our new structure will be based around what is known as a lean production system, whose roots lie in the production principles originally developed by the Toyota Motor Corporation.
The effects of converting to a lean system are far-reaching and already underway. Since its inception we have re-organized our front office into cells along market lines, regrouped our production teams into manufacturing cells, and streamlined flow through our facility.
This effort, which is an on-going process, will not only shorten our delivery times and decrease our internal costs, but over time, will dramatically alter virtually every facet of how we conduct our business. Butch
Brotherton, Assembly Supervisor, is heading this project.
July 6, 2000 - Composite Material Approval
Carver Pump has received approval from the United States Navy to supply Carver material CPC-550, which is a proprietary thermoset composite with vinyl ester resin and glass reinforcement. This material will
originally be used for impellers, casing rings, and shaft sleeves. Approval of this material, which will extend pump life expectancy and reduce weight, represents the culmination of over two years
extensive R & D, testing, and qualification processes. Shipments to the
U.S. Navy will begin immediately.
