Boiler feed

Multistage pumps for steam power generation applications

Boiler feed pumps help feed water to steam generators such as boilers. Boilers are pressurized tanks used to heat and vaporize water into steam. In order to produce steam, boilers and steam generators require feedwater. General applications are building heat, power generation, and sanitation processes.

Multistage pumps are often used for boiler feed because the process requires high pressure. Boiler feed pumps discharge water into a boiler drum. In turn, the boiler heats up the water and turns it into steam. In functions like these, boiler feed pumps must be strong enough to handle varying temperatures to function well. Aside from temperature, boiler feed pumps need to handle different feedwater flows and intense water pressure.

Boiler feed pumps are generally used in one of two fashions: as a freshwater supply to the boiler, or as a condensation return. Not all water that is fed into the boiler turns into steam. Condensation that forms at the bottom of the boiler can be recycled and fed back into the boiler to create steam, hence the need for a condensation return feed.

Two types of boiler feed pumps are the vertical multistage inline pumps and the multistage horizontal ring section pumps. Each type of pump is designed to accommodate today’s various boilers. Vertical inline pumps are used for boilers that have pressure requirements with less than 1,000 feet of head.

Vertical multistage inline pumps are commonly used for commercial buildings for their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning functions. It’s also used for a building’s plumbing and fire protection.

Multistage horizontal ring section pumps have many applications in different industries such as industrial, marine, minerals & mining, oil & gas, petrochemical, and pulp & paper. This type of boiler feed pump is more versatile. It can also be directly coupled to an electric motor, engine or turbine.

Boiler feed pumps are crucial to the entire boiler systems. Using the correct pump can maximize the steam produced by the boiler that helps with heating, power generation, and overall sanitation.

Applications: What are the uses of an RSV In-line Vertical Multistage Pump?

RSV In-line Vertical Multistage Pumps are used in delivering feed water through a pressurized system. Because of its vertical design, it is suitable for places where the ground surface area is limited. These pumps are best used for commercial or high-rise buildings and desalination centers or water treatment plants.

Desalination and Reverse Osmosis

Desalination and reverse osmosis are processes used to transform raw water into potable water, or drinking water. Through the desalination process, you can transform salinated water into water fit for human consumption. With reverse osmosis, pressurized tanks filter saltwater through a semi-impermeable layer which blocks salt particles and allows pure water to pass through.

High Rise Building Sprinklers

High rise sprinkler systems are comprised of many working parts: a main water storage tank, a high-efficiency pump system, and a network of pipes fitted with sprinkler heads. The RSV Inline Vertical Multistage Pumps assist in the instantaneous delivery of water through the system unto the network of pipes in a wet pipe system. Meanwhile, in a dry pipe system, dry air is used instead of water.

Hot and Cold Plumbing System

The RSV Inline Vertical Multistage Pumps are also suitable for water heating and circulation systems. Due to its design, these pumps can handle high pressure and high temperatures needed to create hot and cold water systems in buildings. Since it requires less floor space, it is ideal for both residential and commercial buildings.

Applications: What are the uses of an RS Multistage Ring Section Pump?

The RS Multistage Ring Section Pump is fit for multiple uses and functions. It can be used in a variety of industries such as Commercial Buildings, Desalination / Municipal, Industrial, Marine, Minerals & Mining, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power Generation, and Pulp & Paper.

Cooling Tower and Water Recirculation

Cooling towers are utilized to reject excess heat from manufacturing processes. The RS Multistage Ring Section Pump helps with the distribution of cooling water to relieve the heat from manufacturing machines. A reliable and stable pump is essential to ensure efficiency of the whole cooling process.

Depending on the manufacturing process application, cooling towers can either be closed circuit or open circuit systems. Closed-circuit systems rely solely on airflow to cool the water stream or thermal heat transfer fluid stream. Open circuit systems rely on evaporation to release heat into the atmosphere.

Ethane and Polyurethane Thermal Heat Transfer Processing

Thermal heat transfer fluids, also known as hot oils, are capable of withstanding extremely high temperatures. Hot oils can be used for either heating or cooling applications. The RS Multistage Ring Section Pump is designed to endure extremely high temperatures and aids in the process of thermal heat transfer.

In cooling applications, hot oils are utilized to transfer heat away from a process to maintain optimal operating temperature. In heating applications, hot oils have the opposite function. Some manufacturing processes require process heat to activate coatings or bonds. Regardless of the function of a thermal heat transfer system, thermal fluids are manufactured with system longevity in mind.

Irrigation Systems

To harvest a healthy, sustainable crop, farming operations cannot rely on natural rainwater as the main irrigation source. Modern irrigation systems require high pressure water flows to evenly distribute water over expansive grow areas.

This is where the RS Multistage Ring Section Pump comes in. Water intake for irrigation systems needs an adaptable pump that helps distribute water to all crops evenly. Sprinkler and drip systems are the most common irrigation practices used today. Sprinkler systems utilize a series of pipes and heads strategically placed for even coverage. Sprinkler heads can also be attached to traveling arches that roll down each row of plants during the course of a day. Drip systems utilize a network of semi-permeable underground piping to deliver water directly to plant roots.

While often associated with the agriculture and farming industry, irrigation systems can also be found in municipal applications such as parks, gardens, and sports fields.

Wastewater Management Systems

Wastewater treatment is a critical factor in environmental protection and natural resource sustainability. Depending on the treatment system, water can either be returned to its natural source, or recycled into municipal water supply. In both cases, all debris and contaminants must be filtered and removed from the water before it can be returned to the source, or reused my municipalities.

Wastewater needs to undergo a series of filtration steps such as screening for large matter like stones or wood, aerating to release gasses, organic sludge and scum removal, and bacteria neutralizing. The RS Multistage Ring Section Pumps help wastewater go through each filtration step.
